I was very thankful when the opportunity to review the Fagor LUX 8-quart Electric Multi-Cooker was presented to me. And I am glad that this particular brand came my way because I honestly like its features better than the ones that the Instant Pot boasts.
The very first feature that caught my eye about this cooker was that the cooking pot was ceramic nonstick coated. The fact that they have ceramic nonstick coating is important to me as this is a healthy alternative to regular nonstick materials.
I also love that the LUX has extra safety features that the Instant Pot does not. These features include a locking lid that cannot open unless pressure is released and an automatic pressure release when cooking time is up. I still try to keep my kids well out of the kitchen while it is running, but I am grateful for these advanced safety features.
One of the first things I made in the LUX was my favorite THM E meal of Wicked White Chili (found in the first THM cookbook). This is a slow cooker meal and it was done in about an hour with the LUX! This speed seriously impressed me, especially because I used partially frozen chicken breasts. I also like that it reaches pressure faster than the Instant Pot (by 15 minutes according to Good Housekeeping) as this saves even more time.
Overall, the things I love most about the LUX are as follows:
- reaches pressure and cooks fast
- holds a lot (I received the 8 quart and my family eats a lot so we need every inch of its space!)
- takes up less space than my big slow cooker
- great safety features
- dishwasher safe cooking pot
- has functions where you can sauté and brown foods before setting it to pressure or slow cook, which means FEWER DISHES TO WASH!

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I have the same size and model you are reviewing, and I LOVE it! I got it before the instant pot got so famous. Although it is a little heavy, it does travel well, especially because of the locking lid. I got the 8 quart, and although I only have a family of four, I use it all the time to make double recipes of food for potlucks, or to freeze some for later. I got an extra inner pot to have on hand when I have made a meal that needs to be refrigerated in the inner one and reheated later, and I need to make rice also. That way, I’m not having to do a bunch of shifting food back and forth. I considered getting a second complete one, but having two inner pots may solve that problem. I rarely have to cook 2 things at once, since it cooks so quickly. I’ve also made boiled eggs that peeled so easily, and sweet potatoes in about 5-7 minutes. I would definitely recommend this product!
