Sweetener Sweet Stuff

Enjoy desserts and all the sweet things even when your store-bought sweetener blend has run out by mixing up this one!

Sweetener Sweet Stuff

This recipe (which is technically two recipes) is what I make when I have run out of my beloved THM Super Sweet Blend or THM Gentle Sweet blend. I call these homemade sweetener blends “Sweet Stuff.” The Sweet Stuff to substitute for Gentle Sweet I have dubbed Subtle Sweet Stuff and the one to substitute for Super Sweet I have entitled Strong Sweet Stuff. It should be pretty obvious which is which. 🙂

This wasn’t a recipe I was planning on sharing. But I have had enough requests by friends, family, and readers asking me to share my homemade blends so they have a go-to to make when they run out of their THM sweetener blends before the new order comes in.

Sweetener Sweet Stuff

To use these Sweet Stuff blends, just use them in equal amount as you would the THM blends you have run out of. To make this easier, refer to the my Sweetener Conversions chart here.

Why does the recipe above list erythritol twice? When I click the links the first erythritol takes me to amazon Serve and the 2nd one takes me to amazon xylitol. What exactly is the recipe for?? I’ve read some of the comments and some mention xylitol but I’m so confused.

Hi, Kelsey. I am not seeing it twice. It is possible there was a glitch when you opened it. Can you check again to see if it is still showing it twice? I just submitted this to my recipe card developer in case it is a glitch.

I am seeing erythritol listed twice on the Strong sweet Stuff recipe. It says, “1 cup erythritol, erythritol, or Lakanto Classic” The first link goes to Swerve, the second to Xylitol, and the third to Lakanto Monk Fruit. The subtle sweet recipe is correct.

Oh I never noticed that and nobody else has ever said anything lol! Thank you for noticing and letting me know, I got it corrected. 🙂

Question – when you say “monk fruit sweetener” are you referring to a mixture of erythritol and monk fruit EXTRACT?

Hi, Karen! It refers to a sweetener blend like Lakanto’s.

I made the Transformer Fudge Brownies (from Trim Healthy Table 403). Instead of GS, I used your homemade mixture of Swerve erithritol and stevia, because Swerve is the only sweetener I have found so far that doesn’t come from China! (Even the stevia comes from China…I haven’t figured that part out yet!)

The brownies were really good, but after I eat them they leave something in my mouth that makes whatever I drink next (cashew milk, water) taste really sweet. Do you have any idea what would cause that?

Hi, Janell. It could be either one of the sweeteners. Erythritol has a cooling after taste for some people and stevia can have a lingering after taste for some people as well (depends on brand). Hope that helps. Have a great day!

Do erythritol, xylitol, and monk fruit substitute equally in your blends? I was under the impression there were distinct sweetness intensities & taste among them. Do you prefer to mix the 3 with the stevia or use only one of the 3 at a time?

Below the Sweetener Conversions table, it says “Erythritol, Xylitol, and Monk Fruit – swap equally with sugar.” So shouldn’t one cup of your Sweet Stuff be equivalent to one cup of sugar. I can see where you may want to use slightly less sweet stuff because stevia is not a 1 for 1 equivalent to sugar, but the differences in the table is a lot. Won’t a whole lot less Sweet Stuff change the texture of the final product?

Is it 1 cup each of erythritol and xylitol?

One cup total of sweetener for that line item, you can mix and match which sweeteners you use.

Thank you for clarifying, I was also curious on that answer regarding first ingredients.
