Surprise someone you love this Valentine’s Day with this super easy to make DIY Valentine’s Chocolate Heart Box.

DIY Valentine's Chocolate Heart Box

These DIY Valentine’s chocolates are ridiculously super easy to make. All you have to do is melt chocolate and pour them into molds. However, you CAN get a little fancier by coloring part of the molds with colored white chocolate (like I did for the gift shaped chocolates), striping them (like I did for the strawberries and some of the heart chocolates), splattering them, covering them in colored sweetener, sprinkling them with unsweetened coconut shreds, and so on. Be creative!

You can also add color and variety by doing dipped fruit. Strawberries are of course most common, but you can use almost any fruit–just make sure they’re dry enough that the chocolate will stick to them.

If you want to get a little fancier, you can add flavorings to the chocolate. Ideas include hazelnut, strawberry, raspberry, peanut, peppermint, maple, and so on.

And if you want to get super fancy, you could add fillings. Mix some powdered sweetener with some sugar free peanut butter or hazelnut spread and use that as a filling. If your molds are big enough, you can put a raspberry or part of a strawberry in the center. Maybe add a blueberry. Again, be creative!

What You Do

  1. Pour the chocolate chips into microwave safe silicone or plastic bowls or cups (you can use glass, but be careful because it can more easily overheat and seize in glass). I find measuring cups easier for this because it pours into the molds easier.
  2. Pop the cups or bowls in the microwave one at a time. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat microwaving for 30 seconds and stirring until the chocolate is melted.
  3. If you’re going to color and/or flavor a portion of the chocolates or add fillings, now is the time to do so (remember to only use oil based food colorings).
  4. If you want to add a colored section inside any of the molds, do this next using the paint brush.
  5. Fill the molds with chocolate.
  6. Freeze until solid (about 20 minutes give or take).
  7. Remove the chocolates from the molds
  8. Decorate the chocolates as desired by splattering or striping them with colored or non-colored melted chocolate, coconut flakes, colored sweetener, or whatever else you can find to do this.
  9. If desired, use some of the chocolate to dip strawberries. Make sure the strawberries are thoroughly dry before doing this.
  10. Put the chocolates and any dipped strawberries in the mini muffin liners in the gift box.
